There are all different kinds of busy.
During some busy times, I find that I can get lots of different things done because I get into a 'bring it on' kind of mode and just do whatever needs doing (and then I collapse later). For other kinds of busy, I need more focus and I have to make stark decisions about use of time, like whether to blog or work on that paper that needs finishing.
I am in one of those stark times now, and am going to work on that paper that needs finishing while I'm doing some traveling and other things. It's kind of funny in a way because after I am done traveling, I will be even busier, but it will be the kind of busy in which blogging is a welcome distraction.
So: Happy Mid-April and I'll be back in a week or so.

maybe if you didn't write that boring pointless paper (I am just guessing it's gonna be one of that kind since most published scientific papers are like that), you would feel better about yourself....
ReplyDeleteProjecting from your own insecurities, Anonymous 12:49? I hope you work through your self-hatred at some point, as it is probably no fun being you.
ReplyDeleteBut let's forget for now the fact that your comment says more about your problems than anything or anyone else. Are you suggesting that scientists not publish? That we should do research but not publish it? Or that we should only publish papers that are interesting to you personally? Oh please do send us all a list of what you find interesting. Thanks also for the reminder that we should only do research that we know in advance will lead to interesting and significant results and not start any projects that aren't guaranteed to lead to a paper that does not bore you.
That's what my supervisor told me about scientific papers these days....I don't really know, I am just a grad student....don't take it so hard....I am sorry if I offended you....
ReplyDeleteClassic, Anon 12:49/1:26, just classic. You write something offensive, then say "I was just mindlessly parroting my advisor". I hope you grow a brain at some point and learn to think critically during your graduate career. Maybe then you will feel better about yourself.
ReplyDeleteAcademe forces us into a constant state of evaluation. I sometimes feel guilt about having to choose which projects to work on and which to set aside, but that's the nature of our career path. Good luck with the paper and I look forward to reading future posts whenever you find the time to write. Best ~ female political scientist
ReplyDeletefunny how you are the only one who took offense at my comments, that definetly says something about you and your work.....and also if you had any brain you would have been already aware of the fact that most publications are indeed boring and pointless .....
ReplyDeleteHa. This is a different Anon who also thought the first comment was idiotic, and the following ones are even worse. At first we think this person is giving their own opinion, then we find they are repeating something their advisor said, and now we are back to a supposed actual opinion and another logic fail. No kidding most scientific papers are boring to any one person but I personally find most papers on my general research topic interesting and isn't that what counts?
